About the project
International Translation Day is a book exhibition organized by Leith Library and Heriot-Watt University to celebrate the work of translators and interpreters and to promote the importance of translation in bridging gaps between languages and cultures. I worked as a freelance designer to create a set of visuals for the exhibition display and related activities.
Design process
At the initial stage of the design process, I conducted research on the history and relevant symbols associated with International Translation Day and book exhibition events. We recognised St. Jerome as the iconic figure crucial to this day; consequently, we chose him as the design theme for the exhibition.
In addition, we conducted a design preference test with two proposed versions, which helped us decide on the visual style and finalize the main visual theme. Subsequently, based on these findings, I created a set of visuals including roller banners, posters, activity sheets, bookmarks, and the webpage user interface for the project owner to use in setting up the exhibition and promoting it online. AI tools are employed to review the designs to ensure they meet the required heuristics.
